About the Book

The Museum Beneath His Feet

new project (1)

This story was first ‘born’ after I saw a cave in the mountains, above my house. It sparked an idea and I just ran with it. I took some years to complete the story, as I came back to it and fiddled with ideas. I wanted to make sure that I included references and hints to familiar areas and history, as well as make it enjoyable for adults to read to children. A few of the characters are based on people I have known/encountered, but that’s where those similarities end.

The story follows a teenage boy, who is having to move from his home in England to Eryri, like my eldest son had to. It was important for me to include some of the challenges he faced, but also how quickly he adapted to the new surroundings and language. Including references to Welsh was vital, as it would be unrealistic to have glossed over such an obvious part of Sion’s transition to a Welsh school. Sion, like myself, notices a cave above his new home and wants to go inside to explore. Unlike my cave visit, Sion’s cave reveals a whole new area to investigate, as well as dangerous and frightening situations. Despite being fantasy, it was important for me that the characters and situations seemed as realistic as possible. At the end of the story, it is clear that more could be in store for Sion and his friends in the future.
